According to Reuters, Moscow and Minsk inked an agreement on the deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus on Thursday. The nuclear weapons will be stored in a dedicated facility, which will take more than a month to build.
Russian President Vladimir Putin revealed the proposal to deploy tactical nuclear weapons on public television on March 25. Belarus would be the first country to possess Russian nuclear weapons following the demise of the Soviet Union.
Russia must maintain authority.

According to Reuters, it is unclear when Russian tactical nuclear weapons would be placed in Belarus; all that is certain is that Moscow will retain control of this arsenal.
