The greatest ever deployment of NATO air forces over Europe will take place over Germany. Monday is when the Air Defender 23 exercise is supposed to start.
There will be 10,000 participants as well as 250 aircraft from 25 different nations.
The exercises are meant to mimic how a nation attacked by NATO might react.
100 planes and 2,000 people from the US will take part in the drill.
The German Air Force lieutenant general declared, “We are demonstrating that NATO territory is our red line and that we are ready to defend every centimeter of this territory.”
The commander emphasized, though, that the drill was intended to show a “defensive” posture toward Russia.
The drills will be a “impressive” display of power against other nations, according to the US ambassador to Germany.
Despite the fact that the drill has been scheduled for a while, the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 has forced NATO to take its preparation for an assault on its soil seriously.
Japan and Sweden, two potential allies, are also participating in the drill.
The drill is expected to cause only small delays for commercial aircraft, according to officials.
