Following their meeting with Tunisian President Habib Bourguiba, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte issued unified press statements.
She mentioned the next stages in the EU’s partnership with Tunisia.
“Our goal until the European Summit in late June is to have signed a memorandum of understanding between the EU and Tunisia.”
“We are planning to convene an international conference on migration and development, which President Sayed and I discussed.”
“It will be another step in our overall journey,” Meloni remarked.
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, said that the EU will provide Tunisia with 105 million euros for migration control in 2023.
Von von Leyen stated in Tunis that the funds will be used to assist Tunisia with border control, search and rescue, and counter-smuggling activities.
