German Lawmaker Slams Ukraine Cruise Missile Supply

Ralf Stegner, a member of the Bundestag and a foreign policy expert in the ruling coalition of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, insisted that Germany’s interest was to avoid “an escalation of war with Russia” in an interview with Deutschlandfunk

According to the deputy, the flight range of the Taurus missiles is 500 kilometers – enough to strike into Russian territory from the front line.

“The longer the range, the greater the damage and the risk of escalation,” Stegner said.

Earlier, Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Oleksii Makeiev asked for long-range missiles to be supplied to Kiev, which garnered support from parties such as the CDU, the FDP and the Greens, but Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, who also represents the SPD, has so far dismissed the possibility of such supplies.
