As a result of a suicide bombing that left two civilians dead and two police officers injured in Ankara, Turkey, the Turkish military launched attacks on Kurdish militant targets in northern Iraq on Sunday
The incident was allegedly carried out by the PKK, or Kurdistan Workers’ Party.
In the Metina, Hakurk, Kandil, and Gara districts, the Turkish Defence Ministry reported that its aeroplanes had destroyed 20 PKK targets, including caves, bunkers, and depots.
The ministry added that numerous PKK members had been “neutralised,” a term typically used to refer to deaths.
A Kurdish separatist organisation called the PKK has been at war with the Turkish government for many years.
Turkey, the US, and the EU have all branded the group as a terrorist organisation.
Since several years ago, the Turkish military has been attacking the PKK in northern Iraq with airstrikes.
To demolish the PKK’s facilities, Turkey has also conducted ground incursions into northern Iraq.
