Nations Sign High-Speed Rail Agreement as Part of New Silk Road Initiative
BEIJING – State broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV) announced on Tuesday that Chinese rail maker CRRC Corp has inked a contract to deliver 20 high-speed rail cars to Serbia’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.
According to CCTV, the trains would reduce the eight-hour journey time between the two cities to three hours and are specifically designed for the Hungary-Serbia railway link connecting Budapest with Belgrade.
For the first time ever, China is shipping these railway cars to Europe. They can travel at a top speed of 200 kph (120 mph). They are anticipated to be operational by 2025.
Several countries have signed an agreement to build a high-speed rail line connecting China, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. The agreement is part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, also known as the New Silk Road, a massive infrastructure project that aims to connect China to Europe and Africa.
The high-speed rail line is expected to cost $10 billion and will be completed in four phases. The first phase, connecting China and Kazakhstan, is expected to be finished in 2025. The second phase, connecting Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, is expected to be finished in 2027. The third phase will extend the line to Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, and the fourth phase will extend it to Iran and Turkey.
The high-speed rail line is expected to have a major impact on the economies of the countries involved. It will make it easier and faster to transport goods and people between the countries, and it will boost tourism. The line is also expected to create jobs and promote economic development.
The signing of the high-speed rail agreement is a major step forward for the Belt and Road Initiative. The project is still in its early stages, but it has the potential to transform the global economy.
