BRUSSELS, Oct 23 (Telegraph News) –  “Around 3 a.m. on October 21, 2023, the police were called to a theft from a parked car on Ribaucourtstraat in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek,” the public prosecutor’s office stated. “When police arrived, two men fled on foot. One man was later intercepted by police, the other escaped.”

A search was then conducted at the home of the arrested man with the aim of recovering the headlights and mechanical parts that had been stolen from the parked vehicle.

“During the search, various types of ammunition were found, as well as a weapon of war and a mobile phone. The man was handed over to the Brussels public prosecutor’s office, which referred the case to an investigating judge. The judge placed the person under arrest for theft and possession of a prohibited weapon,” the prosecutor’s office said, adding that there were “no elements related to terrorism” at this time.
