A man is detained by Dutch police in Rotterdam following fatal gunfire at a university hospital

At least seven people were killed in a shooting at a university hospital and a home in Rotterdam, Netherlands, this Thursday, police said

The suspect, who was shot and wounded by police, is in custody. Police have not identified the suspect or released a motive for the shooting.

The shooting began at the Erasmus MC hospital, where the suspect opened fire in the hospital’s lobby and cafeteria. The suspect then fled the hospital and went to a home, where he shot and killed more people.

Police arrived at the scene and shot the suspect, who was wounded and taken to the hospital. Police have not released the suspect’s condition.

The shooting is the deadliest in the Netherlands since 1999 when a man shot and killed six people in a shopping mall in Apeldoorn.

The shooting has shocked the Netherlands, and Prime Minister Mark Rutte has called it a “terrible tragedy.”
