Belgium, Oct 25 (Telegraph News) – At the beginning of this month, Belfius was the first of the four major banks (also KBC and ING Belgium) to announce a new increase in savings interest rates. This will come into effect on November 1.

Now BNP Paribas Fortis is following suit and will offer higher interest rates on deposits from December 1. For the classic savings account, the basic interest rate will increase from 0.25 to 0.5 percent, while the fidelity premium remains unchanged at 0.25 percent. The basic interest rate on the Plus savings account remains unchanged at 0.50 percent and the fidelity premium increases from 1 to 1.25 percent. The interest rate increases also apply to the savings accounts of subsidiary banks Hello bank! and Fintro.

Some small players have been offering their savers higher returns than the major banks for some time.
