The College Board, a nonprofit that develops educational courses, revealed that Florida has informed school superintendents that an Advanced Placement psychology course violates a recently enacted state law prohibiting instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity for high school students
Reacting to this, the College Board stated, “The FDE has effectively banned AP Psychology in the state,” highlighting the impact of the guidance.
This move is part of a broader effort by Republican Governor Ron DeSantis‘ administration to restrict teaching on LGBTQ issues and race in Florida schools.
As DeSantis pursues the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidential race, cultural battles over these topics have become a central focus of his campaign.
