House Report Reveals ‘Stunning Security Failures’ in Trump Rally Assassination Attempt

October 18, 2024 – A bipartisan House task force has released a damning report detailing “stunning security failures” that contributed to an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13. The shooting resulted in serious injuries to Trump and the deaths of two rally attendees.

According to the report, deficiencies in communication between the Secret Service and local law enforcement were critical in allowing the incident to occur. It emphasizes that the attack was “preventable” and points to a lack of clear leadership and responsibility among security personnel as significant factors in the failure.

Senator Rand Paul, the Republican leading the investigation, stated, “This was the result of multiple human failures of the Secret Service.” Investigators noted that local law enforcement had previously expressed concerns about security at the event, yet these warnings were not acted upon. The report highlighted issues such as inadequate planning and a failure to secure the rally venue against potential threats.

In response to the report, the Secret Service acknowledged the shortcomings and is reportedly implementing recommendations to improve its operations. The agency has raised Trump’s security level to its highest standards and is working on better communication strategies for protective events

This incident has ignited discussions about the agency’s preparedness and its ability to protect high-profile figures, raising concerns about national security protocols. A final report detailing further recommendations is expected to be released by mid-December.
