Erdogan: I trust the West and Russia equally

Speaking about the war in Ukraine, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that he trusts Russia as much as he trusts the West

Explaining his recent meeting with Vladimir Putin, Erdogan said he failed to get him to restart the Black Sea grain deal the Kremlin pulled out of in July, but convinced Russia to supply one million tonnes of grain to Africa.

“I have no reason not to trust them,” Erdogan said during an interview in New York, where he is attending the UN General Assembly.

“To the extent that the West is trustworthy, Russia is equally trustworthy. For the last 50 years, we have been waiting on the doorstep of the EU and, at this point in time, I trust Russia as much as I trust the West. “

Turkey and Erdogan have been key figures in the conflict in Ukraine, and Ankara has maintained close ties to Moscow but also provided military aid to Kiev during the war.
