NATO allies see China as a growing threat to the West

NATO allies have urged China to desist from “in any way” assisting Russia’s war effort in Ukraine, emphasising that Beijing’s growing engagement with Moscow contradicts the alliance’s ideals

The NATO allies said in a joint communiqué issued on Tuesday that the People’s Republic of China’s “stated ambitions and coercive policies” put the alliance’s “interests, security, and values” at risk.

“China and Russia’s deepening strategic partnership, as well as their mutually reinforcing efforts to undermine the rules-based international order, run counter to our values and interests.”

“We urge China to play a constructive role as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, to condemn Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, and to refrain from supporting Russia’s war effort in any way.”

“To stop reinforcing Russia’s false narrative by blaming Ukraine and NATO for Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, and to stick to the UN Charter’s purposes and ideals,” the notification read.
