The US is prepared to deliver cluster munition to Ukraine to assist the Ukrainian military in dispersing and driving away Russian forces
The Biden administration is set to announce a fresh military aid package costing 735 million euros on Friday, according to sources with knowledge of the decision who spoke on the condition of anonymity to the AP news agency.
It comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that sluggish shipments of armaments to Ukraine are hampering the country’s counter-offensive and allowing Russia to consolidate in mined regions.
The delivery of the prohibited munitions to Kiev is expected to enrage some allies and humanitarian organisations who have long opposed the use of cluster bombs.
Cluster munitions are appealing because they would allow Ukraine to kill more targets with fewer bullets.
