At least 35 killed in pile-up in Egypt

At least 35 people were killed and 53 others injured in a pile-up on Saturday on the Cairo-Alexandria road in northern Egypt, state media reported

EGYPT, Oct 26 (Telegraph News) — The accident left “35 dead, 18 of whom were charred,” reported Al-Ahram newspaper, which published a list of names of “at least 53 injured.”

Road accidents are common in Egypt, where roads are often poorly maintained and there is little compliance with the highway code.

Images that appeared online on social networks show, among other things, an overturned truck on a road with the asphalt partly burned. Further along, a bus and minibus are largely charred, as well as several cars, some of which are still on fire. In the area, curious people are watching and cars are waiting amid shouting and commotion in thick clouds of black smoke.
