Henry Kissinger meets with Xi Jinping

Chinese President Xi Jinping met with senior US diplomat Henry Kissinger on Thursday in Beijing, referring to him as a “old friend”

“The relationship between the two countries is related to world peace and the progress of human society,” Kissinger said, according to CCTV.

Xi recognised the significance of Kissinger’s visit, noting that he has visited China over 100 times and recently reached 100 years old.

Kissinger, a prominent figure in President Richard Nixon’s administration, made a covert journey to China in 1971, paving the way for Nixon’s historic visit the following year and the creation of formal relations between the US and China in 1979.
