Police have arrested two top officials from Tunisia’s main opposition Ennahda party after audio clips were leaked via social media, allegedly showing one of them accusing his party’s members of embezzlement
Mondher Ounissi – who insisted the audio recordings purportedly of him being circulated were fake – was arrested Tuesday, minutes before Abdel Karim Haroumi, who had been under house arrest this week.
Ennadha lambasted the arrests as politically motivated after party leader Rached Ghannouchi – a prominent critic of President Kais Saied – was also arrested earlier this year.
